FROM the first strum of a powerful anthem of declaration to the softest whispers of tragic lullabies, Valerie Ponzio can’t help but to make you laugh, dance and sing your way through heartbreak. Like a train running through a living room, Val powers through songs of loss, love and raising your glass to the hope of tomorrow. She is Country Music’s Adele with strong influences from Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell to Shania Twain and Florida Georgia Line. With her painful yet powerful voice and guitar chops to boot she’s got a story to tell. Out from the West Texas town of El Paso, call her a Country Mexican Outlaw, Val has brought her brand of Country to the hills of Hollywood and beyond.
VAL was a recent 4 chair turn on Season 12 of The Voice in 2017 and landed a spot on Team Blake. She performed “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash and had burning write ups in Rolling Stone, Wide Open Country, Taste of Country, Country Rebel and more. Val rose to popularity with write ups such as
Channeling Dolly Parton and Janis Joplin, Ponzio balanced a sweet coo in the beginning with full-throated wails near the end of her performance. -Rolling Stone
Being a 4 chair turn Val was able to make great impressions with all coaches Alica Keys, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and even guest advisor Luke Bryan while being on The Voice.
“You are the most well-rounded singer for this particular panel of judges that I’ve ever heard.” -Adam Levine
“I’m obsessed with you now!” – Gwen Stefani
“Whoa that was filled with so much beautiful things.” – Alica Keys
“Valerie is unique, you know she’s got a very earthy, very different quality about her sound. I love that kind of Americana story teller voice that she has.” – Blake Shelton.
Val found her origins in the dusty desert border town of El Paso, a place known for it’s mountains and interesting US/Mexico border town dynamic. Valerie has been keeping busy songwriting in Nashville with heavy hitters such as Justin Ebach who co-wrote the Country #1 hit “Can’t Sleep Without You” with Brett Young. Valerie also recently opened up for Brett in El Paso, TX. She hasn’t stopped since The Voice and is finding the opportunities haven’t stopped pouring in. She is a triple edged sword with her guitar chops, powerful voice and deep yet hopeful songwriting that is a force to be reckoned with.
